I was puzzled by the trail - probably they arranged a plane with a vapour trail to pass in front of the sun. And also by the size - must have been quite a magnification, and quite a zoom. I suppose that must be a wisp of cloud in front of the sun.
2 mins 02 into this compilation of effects which includes more suns (turn the sound off!) shows how it must have been done, with a huge camera, presumably movie---

Dune.I'd never heard of Don Pardo (not being American) - he reminds me of Walter Cronkite, both being naive men whose voices happen to sound authoritative, or reassuring to the public, in the audio version of screen tests.
