I'm sitting in a sushi bar in the East Village. There's a "man" and a "woman" behind me blathering on about office politics. The woman is clearly dominant, the man is bordering on effeminate but has mentioned that he's married. Then it struck me -- is she really a woman? She talks like a boy - sounds like Huckleberry Finn without the Southern accent.
Assuming she has normally developed female genetalia - does this make her a woman? Does her behavior have any bearing on the issue?
Is the "man" a man? It seems his submissiveness would cause him to be judged as less than a man in Muslim countries. And African countries. And I guess Japan.
Women in the West have become men - at least in common situations. And men have become women - at least in the cities. This is dysfunctional.
If I were a woman, I'm not sure I would want to work in an office or boss men around. As a man I struggle constantly to rid myself of womens' fearmongering and ball-busting - because the balance has been upset and they often think they are in control. Women need dominant men, and men need submissive women - otherwise things become miserable like they are now.
Now the people behind me are talking about how "sweet" Desmond Tutu is. Seriously! Champagne socialists... Oy vey.
