It is necessary to stress that the following article, like some others by the same writer, represent the writer's personal views only, and should not be taken as representative of editorial policy nor of any political party that this magazine supports. It should also be stated that we do not intend that this article will be the start of a long exchange of opinions on Christianity and paganism, extending over several months - as a few of our readers would like. We have more urgent matters with which to fill our space.

The fact that even the Anglican Church has been penetrated by left-liberals just proves how totalitarian, in the literal sense of the word, Britain has now become. Liberalism has now totally absorbed all our major institutions. The Anglican Church was once the living embodiment of the white English people and their culture, and the most beautiful aspect of their architectural heritage: something to be treasured, defended and conserved.

But not any more. The changes in the values of the Ministry have nothing to do with reinterpreting Biblical doctrine; in fact, they go against all Biblical teaching. For example, the ordination of women priests came about not because of any re-interpretation of theology but in order to give equal opportunities to women. All very laudable, but the Church isn't a golf club, where membership rules can be changed by a show of hands.

The fact that the Church leadership should even have been thinking of appointing 'gay' bishops or priests is just one more sign of moral and cultural deterioration in the one institution in which you would least expect it. Many on the right look on the steady leftward drift of the Church of England with loathing. Every Archbishop since Dr. Ramsey in the 1960s has done his best to 'undermine' our Christian values, and all have been appointed by naive politicians, totally unaware of the powerful cultural forces at work behind the scenes of the country they think they govern. They thought that a little bit of 'modernisation' would help stem falling congregation attendances.

Each Archbishop more liberal

All of them, instead, have been taken for a ride, since every Archbishop has been more, not less, liberal and socially destructive than the previous one; and all of them have actually accelerated the decline in church attendances. At the same time, they risk splitting the Church into, not two, but several conflicting and opposing factions. Some church leaders want to join the Catholics, and others want to link up with other presbyterian ministries: anything to stop the disgusting rot.

There is a sneaking fear that many of the top bishops and archbishops don't actually believe in the Christian faith and its doctrines. Many of them should actually be slung out of the Church. They have become the enemy within. Far from halting the cultural decline and racial and social fragmentation of this country, they have done their best to speed it up. The fastest growing religion in Britain and in Europe is Islam, which has not been challenged or opposed by the Church of England in the slightest. Indeed, many Anglican clergy think that 'multi-faith' Britain is a good idea. They get away with it because they know that the other power-brokers in this country believe the same thing.

In the July 2003 issue of Spearhead a recorded talk by Kevin Alfred Strom pointed to the remarkable power of early Christianity in uniting all the white tribes of Europe under the Christian banner, and routing the Moslems and expelling the Moors from Europe.

But Strom made an interesting point that has been echoed by fringe movements on the Right for many years: the source of European cultural greatness is in our scientific, architectural and musical heritage. Many have always suspected the treacherous undercurrents in the Christian religion, and Strom reminds us that we must define ourselves firstly in ethnic and cultural terms, and put our race and its proud history first, in the same way that other races do.

Races need their own religions

An often overlooked point is that every civilisation, every ethnic creed, has had its own religion reflecting its own legends, myths and ancestral folklore. The white Europeans had Nordic, Saxon and Pagan, not Judeo-Christian, religions, which came originally from the Middle East. Some actually go so far as to say that the Christianisation of Europe has been tragic because it has been seen to be naturally antipathetic to community or national ties, and its practical effect has been to undermine the harmony and unity of our people.

The Pagan Right has for years pointed to the inevitability of the ultra-liberalism that is inherent in Judeo-Christianity. The problem is that, alone of the world's religions, it is internationalist in spirit and recognises no borders. Other religions, even Judaism itself, are race and culture-specific, and do not believe that their own societies are responsible for the suffering of the whole world, or that they need to atone for it.

The Pagans themselves are a small and rather fragmented cultural movement. They believe in blending the best insights of our ancestors with science and ecology. They try to restore the memory of the beliefs and rituals of European villages and the rural areas of old.

Many Pagans are followers of Asatru, an early religion of a north-western Europe inhabited by the Germanic tribes that became today's ethnic communities that speak Germanic languages, which, of course, includes the English.

In the Runestone, an American journal "celebrating the indigenous religion of European Americans," we read of the preaching of courage, honour and strength and of the importance of acknowledging family and ancestral bonds. Christianity, by comparison, has feminine values and is excessively self-abasing and cloying. It over-values the 'meek' and the poorest (which might be a euphemism for the most feckless and incompetent).

The North Wind is an interesting 'Yearbook of the Odinic Rite' (Odin was an important Saxon god), containing rather poetic and whimsical tales of early Saxon peoples. Occasionally, however, a forthright and bitter article will appear highly critical of Christianity's legacy. Andreas Ludwig sees great danger in the growth of lslam in Europe that Christianity has done little to combat. Whereas the latter is globalistic, the former is imperialistic and militant. It wishes, says Ludwig, to transmit an Arabian culture virtually by foreign conquest rather than by spiritual conversion.

Another Nordic writer, Thor Sannet, has nothing but contempt for America. After the war, its citizens turned to occult beliefs and demonised and marginalised its fundamentalist Christians, who at least attempted to preserve their European heritage.

Darkening of America

Parasitism and vampirisation now rule, as the white community allows massive transfers of wealth to alien recipient groups, who now have powerful religious institutions working for them in the media. "America," he writes, "has become a darkening social miasma with increasingly Third World characteristics, tainted with the stench of decadence and evil. The voices of Asgad (an Odinic god) have gone unheeded, and so chaos and Ragnarok and Loki (Nordic devils) have come as a sure reward for folly."

The more cerebral Pagan Right, largely the prerogative of European intellectuals, agrees with these sentiments. But, rather than returning to forms of ancient worship, they wish to give more emphasis to the pre-Christian political, philosophical and cultural heritage of the Greeks and Romans.

The Pagan right has an acronym, GRECE, which stands for the French equivalent of the Movement for the Study of European Civilization. They deplore the fact that during the 20th century totalitarian movements have arisen which have been inimical to European progress and cohesiveness, especially Marxism and capitalism, which have both been internationalist in ethos and have emphasised economism and materialism.

Fascism, instead, was nationalistic, but it was non-ideological because nationalism does not have a universalistic application. It is surprising how often this is misunderstood. A further marked difference between the 'isms' is that only liberalism believes in an open frontiers policy, which clearly the Soviets and Fascists did not. The Fascist leaders, in both Italy and Germany, were also more interested in and sympathetic to the earlier pre-Christian religions.

However, it is inevitable that the New Right in Europe quite naturally distances itself from any overt criticism of Judaism because of the appalling legacy of fascist-inspired anti-semitic excesses. Nevertheless, the impact of white Jewish culture on the West has been profound: it has contributed enormously to our cultural and scientific progress. But at the same time it has legitimised the existence of diasporas, and has been indirectly responsible for the cultural norms manifested in the scores of new books on immigration and human rights that say, in so many words, that immigration should be a right for everyone, regardless of its effect on the recipient countries.

All this is on the fringe, of course. Paganism is complicated, dated and sub-cultural, and hardly likely to generate a mass following among people in quest of spiritual hope or a better life.

Yet the Pagan and New Right have shown up the legacy of liberal Christianity for what it is, especially its cultural treachery and its sham claim that it represents the unchanging attitudes and values of the indigenous people of Britain and Europe (as it once did), and listens to their grievances, wishes to preserve and protect European moral and cultural heritage from foreign conquest and alien beliefs.
